Qualities of the new Apple Iphone
If you're reading this review on IPAD, is probably still wondering whether to spend more than $ 500 on an iPad, and is looking for answers. In this review, I will try to tell you what the iPad does (or not) and good (I think) it really is. Many aspects of the iPad is covered: design, display, books, videos, applications, productivity applications, games, Internet, battery ... whatever. After reading this, you must have a good idea of whether or not the iPad is for you and it really could offer.
All perceive the usefulness of these devices differently depending on our lifestyle. If you spend most of their time using a desktop computer powerful (PC). If you must have to perform work outside the office, and uses a laptop computer. If you take your e-mail account with a smart phone, or moderately inclined to answer your e-mail from your phone because writing is long and painful. Maybe watch the news on different websites using your laptop on your couch. Now get the idea ...
Qualities of the New Apple iPad
External Design (beautiful)
I will not spend a lot of time to describe what it looks like this device (see our photo gallery IPAD). There are a few highlights:
The build quality is excellent. The aluminum in the back feels great to the touch and does not feel cheap. There is an audio jack for headphones and a microphone for applications that need it. The speakerphone is on the bottom of the device where the button "Home". The audio quality is average and maximum speaker volume is too might be a bit small for his taste. Tip: Whenever possible, use headphones. The volume knob is accessible and active as long as the iPad is running.
The only external connector is Apple proprietary connector (standard audio jack of 3.5 mm), which seems similar to that found in the iPhone. Accessories can be connected to that, and this is the only way cable to connect to the outside world.
The iPad is heavier than what most people expect: at £ 1.5 to 1.6 pounds (3G) is heavy enough so that your wrist gets tired after 30mn firm grasping. $ 499 is a good amount of money, but doing something with the build quality at that price is not easy.
Qualities of the New Apple iPad
Screen (Very good) Apple has ensured that the screen is a high quality
The screen deserves its own section, with a resolution of 1024x768 pixels has a lower apparent density compared to high-end smartphones. That said, everything looks sharp, clear and colorful. The contrast and colors are very nice (I could say "amazing?"). In addition, the brightness distribution is very stable, regardless of viewing angle.
The iPad screen
With direct sunlight, you get a lot of reflections, but overall, the screen iPad does well, especially if you're looking at an image with bright colors. If you are watching a dark film, only a trans-reflective screen could help in this situation. Note that the 3G iPhone screen is a bit better with direct sunlight.
The bevel of thickness is useful after all
I have heard many complaints about the thick bezel around the screen. There is no doubt that while thinner is better, but the framework is necessary because the thumb or finger will fall into it while holding the device firmly. If not for the bezel, the fingers would touch the active area which may interfere with the user interface (UI).
Qualities of the New Apple iPad
Will the iPad cause eye strain?
The strain on the eyes: some fear that the reading of an LCD display may cause headaches and eyestrain. I can only speak for myself, but I have not had any eyestrain.
User interface (Easy) Does it seem familiar?
For those who have used an iPhone or iPod touch, there is virtually no learning curve. It has the same (with many additions) and feel productive right away. If you are not familiar with it, this is definitely one of LSS best touch interfaces on the market, and I think most people can learn quite quickly.
A lot of people think that "their grandparents would love." Maybe, but this has not been tested in many ways. I think most people who believe this have never checked with his family's aversion to technology. Anyway, if you are thinking of getting one for an older person, must take into account that 1 / may not be as easy as you think it is. 2 / A computer is still required to register and configured. As a side note, it is predicted that by 2015, most of the equipment purchased for children under 15 years will have a touchscreen.
Qualities of the New Apple iPad
Media consumption (very good)
The iPad promises to "revolutionize" the way we consume media, so "magical" way, according to Apple. "Magic" is an exaggeration, but yes, this is going to shake some habits.
LibrosLos color books are nice ...
iBook: I like the user interface of Apple's book reader, is simple and easy to read, has a search function and most importantly, most of the books (if not all) come with a free sample. In general, do not think there's a big difference between the book reader Kindle and Apple in relation to the act of reading, but ... Amazon seems to be a better data provider.
IPad Kindle: Amazon has done a good job of making its Kindle application available on many platforms. As a result, you can buy a book from Amazon on the iPad (on amazon.com) and bypass Apple completely. The great thing about the Kindle application is that once you own a book, you can re-download to the devices as much as you want (PC, iPhone, etc. ..). Kindle also lets you take notes if you care about that. Finally, Amazon has about 450 000 books against Apple 60k - oh and Amazon e-books are becoming cheaper too.
But comics are amazing!
Comics: Marvel comics look fantastic! This is really a great demonstration of what is possible in a nice color screen and black and white because it is not a sustainable value proposition. The application of Marvel is a must and there are free comics to prove it.
Reading the color comics and magazines on the iPad
Magazines: If you are a fan of magazines and has high expectations for them on the iPad, for now, is promising, but personally I do not think I'll buy a dozen of each month. First, you do not know what you're getting before you pay. Second, some are really expensive.
PDF: The iPad has excellent support for PDF files .. It is much faster than the Kindle to handle these and the performance is much better. If you are reading complex PDF files, no brainer. The iPad Kindle crushes in the handling of PDF files
New Apple iPad NoticiasCualidades
The arrival of IPAD has many publishers excited. With its "platform" has spent many applications to access its contents.
This is with regard to e-Press
USA Today. Today: This is is favorite news applications. It is well presented and very quick to load and navigate. Unfortunately, it offers video playback. Content is free.
BBC: BBC is quick and clear. It looks more like a mobile website to a "diary", but do not think the "feeling journal" is really what I'm looking for. I want a good story and easy to read, that's all. BBC also has video capabilities. The content is free.
Wall Street Journal: WSJ is mostly a paid subscription content services. They certainly have a great design that looks more like a "diary", but a bit slow.
Bloomberg: To track the implementation of Bloomberg Markets is excellent and you can follow a lot of things (indices, news, currency ..) better and more clearly than I would on your website. Because there is less surface area of the screen, the developers had to prioritize the important content. The result is access to information without regard. It's free too.
Netflix: Netflix works wonderfully. The resolution of streaming movies is slightly lower than the iPad 1024x768, so things are not as sharp as could be, but is nice enough to have a good time.
YouTube: YouTube has more content in high resolution, so we tried to watch a few movie trailers and they all came out looking smooth and sharp - much better than anything I've seen on Netflix anyway.
Music user interface is a little different from the iPhone version, but the music playing, basically, works well, not much to report on that front. is an iPod, after todo.Productividad (below average)
Review IPADE 60 words per minute, this is much better than a smartphone, however, less than a netbook
Virtual keyboard: after writing to it for some time, in my opinion: it is much better than a smartphone, either in portrait or landscape. However, this is not as fast as a keyboard Netbook 10 "or full-size keyboard
Email is comfortable and is eficazCorreo mail: The e-mail experience is comfortable, somewhat more than a netbook. Because the Mail application user interface is adapted to a small screen, is better than it would on a 10 "Netbook with Outlook or Gmail. They are easy to read and also easy to switch from one account to another.
The calendar is easy to take a look and easy to read
Calendar: The calendar is another element that benefits from an increase in size of the screen. A week of events can be done easily. In two touches, you can edit and change the time and other properties of an event. fresh material.
File management:
Outside of iTunes, there is little or no way to manage. Applications for access to the files are very limited. If you yourself send an email with a PDF file, you will be able to open, but not save it. I do not think you can even create a folder to download things. The photos of the emails can be saved in the "pictures" directory, but not elsewhere.
iWork: Microsoft has announced that there would be a version of Microsoft Office for iPad, but Apple has its own suite of productivity, which is getting rave reviews. In the end, I think the question is: how much can actually write on this platform? The answer is "not much", so that regardless of how well the software is ultimately you put the limit.
Games (getting better, but ...)
Players may consider the iPhone platform as a system of sub-par game, but commercially, it is fast becoming a huge thing. Probably you're a hardcore gamer and have a problem with touch controls. I prefer a game controller, mouse + keyboard or a wheel. You may or may not like it more - there's only one way to find out: Try playing on an iPhone and an iPad.
There have been reports of overheating of the iPad, but for now, I have not experienced any problems, despite playing 3D games for more than 30mn - 45mn.
Web Browser
There are some issues with Ajax and lacks support for Flash, but is good enough.
The web browsing experience, is very similar to the iPhone / iPod touch, but a little faster, and with a screen more comfortable. Now, there is need to expand a lot and it feels very similar to navigation in a computer, but with some significant setbacks:
1. The page loading is still significantly slower than on a pc
2. No flash, and many popular sites, such as restaurants or entertainment venues are not working properly (if any).
3. Google Docs allows you to edit documents, and have noticed problems with some widgets to Facebook, too. Expect some difficulties with Web 2.0 sites.
In general, there is a real problem, but I wanted to make sure that you realize that these problems exist, and that can not be fixed soon.
Qualities of the New Apple iPad
Social Media (Current) RevisiónDejé the iPad iPhone Facebook application for the Facebook website
Tweetdeck is pretty amazing - watch it for free
There are plenty of applications to use Twitter more efficiently. I tried via web, and I like clean and clear interface. Like Facebook, it's good that you can use the website directly to get the whole experience (minus Flash video). When using the chat with AIM, the screen is slightly smaller when using the virtual keyboard, but the change to portrait mode to do the work. In general, there is usually an "application (iPhone)", or you can go to your favorite social networking site directly. Applications alert you when something happened, that's why I consider very practical application of Facebook for iPhone. I can not wait to see the version of the iPad ...
This is probably the largest application (surface) AOL IM
Various applications
♦ Adobe ideas (free): There are a lot of applications, but this caught my attention. It's a fun drawing program that allows you to sketch things out with a finger. Autodesk has a much more elegant, but uses paid popr also do something like this.
♦ Memeo Connect Reader: Allows you to synchronize files from Google Docs for the iPad. Because it is integrated with iPad file management could be improved, this small program can be very useful.
♦ WiFi chip faster than iPhone 3G
♦ The 3G model is not yet available, but the good news is that the iPad WiFi chip is faster than the iPhone - if you can find a network fast enough to saturate the chips ... It is not considered surprising, since Apple has less power and thermal limitations with the iPad Wi-Fi chip can be increased.
As we predicted, the iPad is $ 499 which has been selling, but some people have been buying Sprint MiFi Overdrive or wireless modems to create a WiFi "bubble" in which the iPad can communicate.
How is the speed of the 3G iPad?
While waiting for the 3G version, people have been using modems inalámbricosObviamente, things are a little slow to switch from WiFi to 3G. Overall good for text based applications such as email. What websites do you decrease markedly, but things are still fast enough to enjoy movies from Netflix - at a lower resolution. The Nokia Maps application works very well. In fact it is almost as fast as it is with WiFi. Downloading content is the part that should suffer most under 3G and of course, is the overall reliability of the AT & T to be proved. Indeed, AT & T has confirmed that for the iPad "unlimited" really means "unlimited" and not only 5 GB.
Note that the use of a MiFi or Overdrive work perfectly, but both devices have a range of about 3 hours, which is far from the 10 hours of the iPad.
Qualities of the New Apple iPad
Battery (Excellent) The battery life is simply excellent IPAD
Thanks to advances in low power designs, tests the battery life of computers is becoming seriously rather long. The IPAD A4 custom processor consumes very little power, so in most cases, the display will be the biggest factor in battery consumption.
* Local video storage: 10 hours * Video streaming (Netflix): 10 hours * reading book :11-12 hours * Music (Screen off): (too long, if I want to publish this week)
A typical day: For my personal use, the iPad will remain alive for about 1.5 days, and days 2, possibly, if I try all applications with glossy icons.
Standby: Most of the gadgets continue to drain energy when in sleep mode. In the case of the iPad, I realized that I lost about 1% per night (7hr), which is quite low. This could be a positive effect of not having too many things running in the background ...
Incompatibility with USB charging, although it is mentioned that the iPad can be loaded from a computer's USB port, it appears that this is only true especially for Mac USB ports, because they have a little more juice. Does not work on most PCs or USB HUB.
Replacing the battery: the battery is not replaceable by the user, and like most of the batteries could lose their capacity or simply die (after a while). At this time, the replacement cost is $ 105.95. For more information visit the Apple iPad battery replacement.
What could be better? (Much)
As good as can be the iPad, not perfect. Here's a short list of things that critics often complain iPad:
* No camera * USB ports are not we stick with that for all iPhone port * No history of performance (multi-tasking) for third party applications * This must be addressed by the iPhone OS 4.0, to be published for the iPad the autumn. * Virtual keyboard is not as productive as a real * No Flash * AT & T only (in practice) * No widescreen * Market closed applications * Can not create a list of applications and files for purchase / download
Most critics are very legitimate, but many people do not take into account the costs that may induce in terms of form factor, energy or dollars. The reality is that there is a lot of competitors out there and usually, the iPad is "good enough" for an audience.
How bad is to not have multitasking? Not being able to let applications run in the background is annoying sometimes ... Personally, I'd have some sort of notification if someone sends me an instant message (IM). At this point, even that is possible. This is really the only thing that bothers me, although I understand that others want to do more things that require multitasking. I suspect the iPhone OS 4.0 may address to some extent.
Is this a netbook / laptop murderer? (No)
Why people are so polarized? These devices became friends in 2 seconds
In general, the IPAD Netbook is not a murderer, but will remove the revenue from this market. From the hardware point of view and functionality, there is no argument that the iPad only performs a subset of the things you could do with a classical computer. If you currently use your laptop to do things exactly the functions overlap with iPad, then yes, the iPad could be a replacement for netbook, but I do not generalize this. It's just "different", we will accept.
Limitations contained in the "What could be better?" show the point that the iPad can not do things that most people take for granted like leaving your IM client in the background, go to Flash based websites, copy data from a USB key, or simply write comfortably for long periods of time. Many observers forget how important it is for Microsoft Windows most of the buyers of netbooks. Linux netbooks fault for that. Being able to install Windows applications remains "indispensable" in the list of people.
Indeed, the first thing that happens when you turn the iPad is that is being asked to be connected to a computer to initialize (PC or Mac).
A team is required to activate the iPad
What is an ideal iPad?
Web browsing, e-mail: I tend to use my laptop on my sofa bed, and for most web browsing and email that I do, the iPad is very useful. The battery lasts much longer, is lighter and more important, it is "instant on" - no boot, will not close. As I said before, some sites are not accessible, because Flash is not supported, but 95% of time is not a problem.
View your account Netflix: Add DVD, instant-on movies and see the new releases. View streaming video works very well too.
Read news and comics: Reading comic books is truly impressive, it is much better for me than the experience of paper ... Some applications are very good news too. They are quicker to go to the website, but I'm not sure if the web is not going to win in the long term. It is too early to say. The books are good too, but I think the screen could use a higher resolution and larger size. That said, I choose the iPad on the Kindle at any time.
Enjoy your movies on an airplane: Because of its size, the iPad is very good at showing films in narrow environments like airplanes but you need some support, because it is comfortable to hold for a while. The movie playback is something that newer netbooks can be treated, but most of them run out of power after 3-6 hours, while the iPad can last 10 hours.
Maps: The Maps application looks great on the iPad. For now, we have not tested in 3G + GPS enabled, but it would be interesting to take a walk. Using the iPad as personal navigation sounds good, especially if there is a good way to ride in a car. Is there an attachment for that?
Viewing photos, videos: I like playing with the photo gallery, and I like to see a trailer quickly to decide whether I should write something on my VCR, or rent a movie on my PS3 and Netflix.
Is (really) instant-on, unlike my laptop, the iPad on and off instantly which is quite useful and convenient. It also prolongs the battery life.
For what the iPhone is not very good
This is my personal preference, but here is what I like to use the iPad for:
Write Comment: It is painful to write for a long time on the iPad.
Productivity applications: While IPAD is able to do things like word processing, spreadsheets or presentations, rather do it on a classic. In a pinch, it's great that you can get some things to do, but I do not buy the argument that productivity applications are a "pleasure" to work with.
This list of "not so great" is limited to things I do with my laptop while sitting on my couch. The conclusion is: the laptop is not too far.
Qualities of the New Apple iPad
Conclusion (Very Good, but not all)
By the way, you're a fan Ubergizmo in Facebook?
As the iPad is "useful" will evolve with new applications and ideas, but ultimately is just a tool to help you do what I usually do ... more easily and better. You have to wonder why it would be useful to you. In fact, if you are wondering what is the purpose of this? ", Then there is probably some reason for you to get one.
For those who know that they are going to use, I hope this review has cleared up some things and provide sufficient information to make a decision.
Let's face it: most people who currently do not need an iPad in the way that they "need" a phone or computer. At this point, it is an entertainment device that could make your life a little better the computer-if you find the right applications applications. It has a lot of great qualities: Über-portable, beautiful, tons of applications, large screen, excellent battery life ...
