The Apprenticeship Model of Leadership Development - Developing Leaders at all levels
The apprenticeship model of Leadership Development
A lot of leadership development programs are not providing the promised results. Some of the wrong people are selected as leaders. High potential leaders are not given the right experience or stretch assignments to develop leadership skills.
I work with a number of companies to help them assess the future leaders. In our Executive Coaching programs, we co-create leadership development action plans based on the skills needed to grow future leaders. Experience requirements are incorporated in each development plan leaders.
Is your company with an executive coach and management consultant to help select, evaluate and develop future leaders and fill the leadership pipeline?
Traditional leadership development processes are not delivering on their promises. It 's time for a new approach to research and develop the types of leaders businesses need for a complex and uncertain future.
Ram Charan in his recent book, leaders at all levels. shows the model of apprenticeship, which is a remedy for the crisis of leadership. After observing how leaders develop (or fail to do so) in several decades, hundreds of organizations, concludes:
o Not everyone can become a leader. No amount of classroom instruction can provide quality leadership. Leaders to think and act differently. We recognize the future leaders if we know what to look for and hone our skills of observation.
leadership skills or developed through practice and self-correction. People who have the right talent can accelerate their growth until each new job assignment helps them build their basic skills and acquire new ones, provided they are given timely and accurate feedback.
o The CEO job requires great strides in learning. The leaders will not be willing to drive large companies unless any work experience is much more complex than the previous.
The apprenticeship model of leadership development requires us to identify leaders early and put them in situations that lead them to grow fast. People with the right talent and high potential should embrace the opportunity to learn by doing: practice, feedback, corrections and practice even more.
Leadership development is no longer a discrete managed by HR personnel, is a contact sport every day that is fully integrated into the fabric of a business. The leading online play a central role in providing the necessary practice and feedback.
Are you or your company to work with an executive coach who can help with leadership development?

You can become a leader who models emotional intelligence and social intelligence, and that inspires people to become happily engaged with the strategy and vision of society....
